Abstract

A noise propagation analysis method was employed to evaluate the tone noise emissions of a multistage contra-rotating turbine. This propagation procedure is based on a linearized aeroacoustic solver with non-reflecting boundary conditions. The linearized code is used to evaluate the acoustic response of each single row, while the propagation strategy allows the acoustic waves to propagate across adjacent rows up to the turbine exit. Firstly some numerical results for a conventional turbine are shown and compared with experimental data, then an in-depth analysis of a contra-rotating architecture is presented.
